Classroom Information
Information from Mrs. Haslett’s Kindergarten 2023-24
The following is some important information that you may find helpful:
ABSENCES: If your child is going to be absent from school, you will need to call the office before 9:00 a.m. to notify us. When your child is ready to return to school, you will need to send a note informing us of the reason for the absence. If your child becomes sick at school, you will be called to pick him/her up. You will stop in the office first to check in and sign them out. I will send home any work that your child has missed. Please go over this work and return it to me. This practice of completing missed work will be helpful to your child in future years.
BIRTHDAYS: We make birthdays special in our room. You are welcome (but not required) to send treats for your child to share with the class (if treats require forks, plates, napkins, etc., please send in those as well). Children who have a summer birthday will be honored on their half-birthday. The products must be store bought. It is school policy that invitations to children’s birthday party may not be passed out here at school unless there is an invitation for EVERY child in the class.
BOOK ORDERS: A great way to get books for your child at great prices! Forms will be sent home at the beginning of the month and be due the following week. Checks should be made payable to Scholastic Book Clubs. Even better is to place your order online. The books you order online will be delivered to me here at school. Orders usually take 2 weeks to arrive.
BUS RIDERS: Come in the back gym doors at 8:15 and go out the front kindergarten door at 3:10. Notification is required for any after school transportation changes. A phone call, note, or email to me or to the office is necessary for any change.
COMMUNICATION: Whenever you need to contact me, please do so! You can send a note, call me at school, or send me an e-mail. The school phone number is 686-8809 and my e-mail address is [email protected]. The district website is a valuable source of information! The web address is: http://www.phcusd325.net. I also have a website with information. My class website is http://phgsmrshaslett.weebly.com/. Join our Kindergarten Facebook page; PHGS Patriot Kinders. The school district has an app, just search Peoria Heights School District.
COMPUTERS: Each student will be assigned a tablet that will be used here at school and may be sent home if remote learning is necessary. Students will be taught how to log on to the tablet and run simple educational programs. Personal headphones are a must for each student. Please make sure they fit your child properly before sending to school.
DAILY COMMUNICATION: There will be a daily communication log that will be in your child's daily folder. Please use this to ask questions or to let me know of upcoming appointments or changes in end of the day transportation.
DROP-OFF/PICK-UP STUDENTS: Come in the main front doors and go out the back kindergarten door (the ramp). Students are allowed in at 8:15 (8:05 for breakfast) and are dismissed at 3:15. The three kindergarten teachers rotate the duties of taking out the walker/riders and bus riders each week. School starts at 8:30. If you are tardy, you will have to take your child to the front of school and check them in at the office. An adult needs to bring your child in to be signed in if late.
EMAIL: The best way to communicate with me! I am not always able to get to a phone during the school day. I do check email several times throughout the day. [email protected]
FOLDERS: Send the red folder to school every day. Communications between school and home are placed in the folder.
INFORMATION FORMS: Please return all forms from the office and me ASAP. Extra copies of these forms are available.
HOMEWORK: Once or twice a week, homework may be sent home to review skills taught in class. It is important that the homework be returned the next day or by the date indicated.
LIBRARY: On Monday afternoons, our class will go to the school library to check out books. They will be allowed to take this book home for the week. Students must return the book the following Monday in order to check out another book. Lost or damaged books must be paid for before another book can be checked out.
LUNCH MONEY: PHGS is participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) this school year. Healthy breakfasts and lunches are provided to ALL students at no cost. Cold lunch students purchasing milk ($0.40) will keep their milk money in their lunch boxes and will purchase milk in the lunchroom or use money they have in their account.
*Please be sure your child’s lunch box is clearly marked with his/her name—many are forgotten on the playground!
MUSIC: Friday afternoons
NEWSLETTERS: Since I feel communication between home and school is very important for success in school, I will send home a newsletter weekly. It will include such items as the letters/words introduced, units, and projects that we will be studying that week in class, as well as important dates and other information that will help keep you up to date on our classroom activities. The newsletter usually comes home on Mondays and will also be available on my website.
P.E.: We will have PE every afternoon (except Fridays). Tennis shoes are preferred. **Flip-flops are not to be worn at school at any time.
REPORT CARDS: The first report card will be mailed home on October 20. Parent/teacher conferences will be on October 5 & 6, and also on February 15 & 16.
SCHOOL VISITS: If you need to come in to school for a particular reason during the school day (drop off sack lunch or to pick up your child for an appointment, for example), you are to go to the school office. All visitors to PHGS must check in at the office and one of the secretaries will call down to our classroom to send your child to the office if necessary. Following this procedure reduces the number of interruptions to our classroom routine.
SNACKS: With our lunch period being early (10:50), we will have time in the afternoon for a healthy snack. Students are to provide their own snacks daily. Healthy snacks include: fruit, vegetables, crackers, cereal, granola bars, yogurt, etc. PLEASE, NO COOKIES, CANDY, OR CHIPS.
SUPPLIES: Please keep in mind that kindergarteners tend to use up their supplies quickly, particularly glue. You may want to check with your child periodically as to whether he/she needs additional supplies. Supplies should be labeled with your child’s name. Also, please keep a small supply box filled at home in order to do homework.
TARDIES: Any student who comes to school after 8:30 a.m. is marked tardy, unless his/her bus was late arriving at school. A student who is tardy must be signed in at the office by an adult before coming to the room.
TOYS: Toys are not allowed to be brought to school.
WATER BOTTLES: Students are allowed to bring a water bottle filled with water only each day with your permission. Please no juice or other beverages (spills would become a sticky mess!). The water bottles can be refilled throughout the day as needed. At the end of the day, the water bottles will be emptied and sent home to be washed (or recycled).
I hope this information will be helpful to you. If at any time you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me!
